Chief Technology Officer

About us

Big Life is in the business of changing lives. We fight inequality by working with people and places to create opportunities and inspire change. Whatever service we deliver to help people to change their lives, we do things the Big Life Way.

What you’ll be doing

As our Chief Technology Officer, you’ll lead the strategic delivery of our 5-year technology plan across The Big Life group. You’ll ensure that our infrastructure, security, applications, and development services are fit for purpose, efficient, and continually improving.

You’ll manage and mentor a team of specialists across IT, security, development, and infrastructure, and embed a culture of innovation and collaboration. Your work will support both day-to-day operations and large-scale digital transformation that makes a real difference to the people we work with.

What we need from you

  • You’ve got at least five years’ experience in a senior technology leadership role, ideally in a complex or mission-led environment.
  • You know how to lead multi-disciplinary teams and get the best out of specialists in development, infrastructure, security and support.
  • You understand cyber security best practice, and have delivered secure, scalable IT infrastructures – ideally aligned to ISO27001 or Cyber Essentials Plus.
  • You’re confident in project and change management, establishing governance frameworks and making strategic decisions.
  • You’re fluent in ITIL, DevOps and Agile methodologies.
  • You’re passionate about innovation and continuous improvement.
  • You need an enhanced level DBS check for this role.

What we will offer you in return

  • An annual salary of £81,750 – £90,000 (pro-rata, depending on experience)
  • A permanent, part-time contract (17.5 hours per week)
  • Agile/hybrid working, with a base at the Zion Centre in Manchester
  • 25 days holiday, and 30 once you’ve been here five years.
  • A senior leadership role in an organisation with a bold mission to fight inequality and change lives.
