eTherapy for Young People

Go back

Our online interactive eTherapy for Young People (up to 18 years old) service is here to help with how thoughts have an impact on feelings, physical symptoms, and behaviours. It teaches techniques and strategies to help young people to cope better with negative thoughts, feelings, low mood, and anxiety, as well as building on wellbeing and resiliency.

The eTherapy programme (Silvercloud) can take between four to eight weeks to complete, and the young person will be supported weekly by an eTherapy Coordinator – either face to face and/or over the phone – while they complete the course.

What is Silvercloud?

A package of mental health treatment programmes, mostly based on CBT, which can help people to overcome mental health problems.

Usage is usually overseen by a supporter (our eTherapy Coordinator), who:

  • Will assess suitability of eTherapy for young person’s needs.
  • Monitors and reviews progress (including regular risk assessment)
  • Provide feedback, guidance and encouragement, via regular phone or written reviews.

Programmes can also be used in self-help/ unsupported mode. Clients can access the programme for up to 12 months following supported therapy.

Your child may have been referred to our service due to some of the difficulties they have currently been experiencing, and the negative thoughts that come with this.

eTherapy is an online programme based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy that provides early access to support when it’s needed.

The programme provides education and tools for young people to understand and manage their anxiety. Content is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT) an effective way to reduce anxiety symptoms.

The sessions are controlled and monitored by the programme and the young person learns about negative feelings and thoughts, low mood, and new ways of coping with these, as well as building on wellbeing and resiliency. There are various bits of homework to help practice the new strategies.

The programme is accessed online and can be accessed when its needed. Our eTherapy Coordinator will guide the young person through the programme, closely monitoring how they are feeling each week and if at any point the young person feels this service isn’t benefitting them, we can then look at signposting to another service.

The course lasts for approximately 8 weeks and includes an initial discussion and assessment to see if your young person would benefit from accessing the service and to ensure that it is appropriate.

If for any reason you do not feel that eTherapy is appropriate we can discuss alternative services with you and make a referral where necessary. Should you wish to withdraw from the support then you can do so at any time, and you do not need to give us any reason. In those circumstances, it may be desired to be referred onto another service which may be able to help.

If you would like to discuss the Young Person’s eTherapy support further, please let us know and we can arrange a call with the coordinator or service team leader.
