As we come to the end of another busy year, we are reflecting on our progress under the guidance of the Quality Committee. This report details our improved offers and our accomplishments, despite significant challenges.
This year, our focus has been on enhancing our organisational awareness of learning opportunities, or something we refer to as “Near Misses.” We have made initiative-taking efforts to encourage individuals to recognise and report these Near Misses, aiming to reduce incidents and accidents across the group. This initiative has been undertaken by staff in all our services, with the view that the lessons learned are often relevant and transferable throughout the organisation.
Aligned with our commitment to learning, The Big Life Group is increasingly operating based on research-driven practices. This has included the development and implementation of culturally sensitive training and support programmes, such as Adverse Childhood Experiences and Trauma and Becoming an Anti-Racist Organisation. Participants have provided positive feedback, demonstrating high compliance and engagement rates.
The year 2023-24 also presented a significant challenge as the organisation was victim to a criminal cyber-attack, which occurred despite existing security measures. The group responded swiftly and professionally to this data breach, mitigating the risks, and minimising the impact of such an incident. This response displayed a commendable, collaborative approach from colleagues and exemplified Big Life’s commitment to its values, and its operational focus on health and safety, information governance and safeguarding.
Looking ahead, The Big Life group is set to achieve great sustainability improvements. To support our Net Zero goals, we are working with an energy consultant to identify efficiency improvements. Energy audits have revealed immediate savings, and we have developed a plan for sustainable repairs and upgrades.
We are also introducing advanced research-informed training and working to secure new accreditations in areas such as Carbon Literacy.
At our core is our people-centred approach, and this remains integral to everything we do. Through our Quality Report’s reflective insights, we are well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of our communities and continue to create lasting, positive change.
