SHS Self Esteem &
Assertiveness Course

Self esteem is about feeling good about yourself, knowing your good points, being satisfied with yourself, and seeing yourself in positive ways.  Assertiveness is the ability to express yourself and communicate your needs in a straightforward, clear manner without hidden messages or meanings. Self-esteem and Assertiveness are vital for our continuing success and impact how we feel about ourselves and others.

About the course: Self Help Services’ Self-esteem & Assertiveness Course is an 8-week guided self-help programme. Each week the facilitator(s) of the course encourage and guide participants to work on skills to improve feelings related to low self-esteem and assertion skills.The course is a closed group (each session lasting for two hours).  In order to obtain maximum benefit from the course, participants must be able to commit to all eight sessions.

About the facilitators: The course is facilitated by two people who share personal experience living with anxiety & depression and have found that working on self-esteem and assertion skills has truly benefit their mental-ill health deliver the programme. The facilitators have created this course to share their learning with others. The facilitators receive support, line management and regular external supervision from Self Help Services and work within the Self Help Services Code of Ethics. Facilitators also receive on-going training for personal development and have undertook an Enhanced Criminal Record Disclosure Check.

Donations: As there are costs associated with providing this service that are not funded externally, we would appreciate it if you could kindly make a donation. Suggested donations are as follows:

£20 per course for people who are currently in receipt of a means tested benefit (job seeker’s allowance, income support), in receipt of a state pension only or who are full time students living independently. £40 per course for all others.

Trafford Courses

We currently offer three courses in the Trafford area which focus on Anxiety Management, Depression and Self-Esteem & Assertiveness.  Courses last for 6-weeks and aim to help individuals dealing with the above issues improve their levels of wellness and learn coping strategies that promote ongoing well-being.

 The groups run on a weekly basis with sessions lasting 2hrs and participants must be able to commit to the 6 consecutive sessions. The venue is a non-smoking building and when the group ends the venue must be vacated.
 
As the courses are part of the Trafford Psychological Wellbeing Service, they adhere to a professional Code of Ethics, complaints procedure and operate standard ground rules.   In order to access the courses you must be a resident of Trafford or have a Trafford GP.
